Dear Hermes:
I have heard of genetic memory which is basically us carrying memories that our ancestors had, which is probably there to help us evolve. I was wondering if we also carried some of their karma, thus producing something like persecution or racism. Or it may be just ignorance and hatred. I just wanted to know if there was a spiritual reason behind things like that. Also, when or if we reincarnate, do we have control over what we reincarnate into? Or are we stuck within our family tree. I have heard that we have, in addition to our genetic family, a spiritual family that exists either in spirit or physical form. Thanks a bunch. Peace. S.
Hi S!
Genetic memory does exist and it does exert an influence on how the body reacts and grows. It is the body's failsafe to use when consciousness does not direct it. Consciousness can override genetic memory. If you keep your thoughts clearly focused on a certain path then the body will not take genetic memory. In this case I refer to things like weakness to certain illnesses that is passed down in the genetic blueprint. If you were to succumb to the same patterns that your forbears did in diet or action then you may come down with this genetic abnormality. However if you were to stay positive and remember that your consciousness has the final say in what you create and change the patterns that create this thing, then your body would not dip into the genetic memory bank. Of course genetic memory is a two-edged sword. You certainly do not mind the good positive effects that genetic memory can bring you. Either way, staying focused on the positive things and knowing that consciousness can override genetic memory can keep your reality going in a very pleasant direction.
There is no karmic genetic memory. The "Sins of the Father" saying does not exist. Bad karma is not passed down from individual to individual. Karma is tied to the individual not the body. You do bring karma with you from previous lives but this past life karma just sets up a guideline for your current life, so that you can work this karma out in a positive way and still retain your freewill.
Racism and persecution are things handed down from one person to another; they are not in genetic memory, but the product of the copycat principle. People love to mimic each other and that includes all the bad things. Children are very susceptible to the patterns of the parents and the environment they grow up in. That is where those things begin. Again the individual can override this programming, and, as they enter into adulthood, the individual should rid themselves of the corrupt programming from their formative years.
You pick when and where you will reincarnate. No one reincarnates without choosing the conditions. As you get more spiritually advanced these decisions are assisted by spiritual masters and teachers that you trust, so that you can make a good growth choice. The final choice however is up to you. Also people tend to reincarnate among the same circle of friends. They choose to reincarnate as a group at times. This can be good or bad depending on where you are in your growth process. You attract personalities around you and these can become your pseudo nonphysical family. The only real "nonphysical family" you have is that of the Monad and its tree of 144 individuals. Each individual on the Monad tree shares a common divine spark. This connects them to each other, much the way genetics connects family members.
Light, Peace
